Sam Gregory


Sam is Program Director of WITNESS, which supports anyone anywhere to use video and technology to fight for human rights; he also teaches at the Harvard Kennedy School on harnessing the power of new visual/participatory technologies for human rights change. An award-winning advocate and technologist, Sam supervises work around innovation in eyewitness video for human rights and on trust, credibility and images; as well as WITNESS’ Tech + Advocacy work, advocating to technology companies on how their platforms are used for human rights. He has worked on impactful campaigns worldwide, and particularly in Latin America and Asia, and video advocacy he has supported has engaged decision-makers in the U.S. Congress, the U.K. Houses of Parliament, and the United Nations and contributed to changes in policy, practice and law. He has created a range of innovative training programs and teaching texts and was lead editor on ‘Video for Change: A Guide for Advocacy and Activism’ (Pluto Press, 2005). In 2015, he launched the ‘Mobil-Eyes Us’ initiative focused on combining live and immersive video with the power of distributed networks to drive more meaningful and useful global activism. He has spoken at the White House and at Davos, and was a 2012-17 Young Global Leader of the WEF and a 'Future for Good' Institute for the Future Fellow on the future of activism. He is a member of WEF’s Global Future Council on the Future of Human Rights, and the Technology Advisory Board of the International Criminal Court.
